The .EDU top-level domain is intended for four-year, degree-granting
colleges and universities.
Therefore, the .EDU domain is not available to foundations, institutions, consortia, centers, etc., even though they may have an educational mission. Many of these types of organizations have chosen to register their domains in the .ORG top-level domain.
